Court Directs Censor Board to Issue Certificate for Vijay's 'Jana Nayagan'

Vijay's film Jana Nayagan has been legally relieved. The Madras High Court has instructed the Censor Board to grant a U/A certificate to the movie. The decision was made by the court on Friday.

Censorship Controversy Background

• Initially, the film was sent for censorship in December. The Board proposed the filmmakers to remove some scenes that were considered inappropriate and to soften a few dialogues. The production house made the alterations and submitted the film again. However, the board still remained silent.
• KVN Productions then made an urgent application to the Madras High Court. The company alleged that the board had initially recommended a U/A certificate but subsequently sent the film to a review committee. The High Court granted a hearing to both sides on Wednesday and reserved its decision.

Film Release Impact

• As a result of the delay, the initially scheduled release date of the film was pushed back from January 9. On Friday, one judge questioned the necessity of the review committee process since a U/A certificate had already been advised. The court ordered the Censor Board to issue the certificate without any further delay.
• The Censor Board has challenged the ruling made by the single judge. A writ petition seeking a priority hearing was filed before the Chief Justice's bench of the Madras High Court.

Future of 'Jana Nayagan'

• According to the latest ruling of the court, the movie is now free to go ahead with its release. Rumor has it that the team is preparing to unwrap the film on January 14th, coinciding with the Sankranti festival. Nevertheless, an official announcement is still pending.
