'Jana Nayagan' Faces Further Delay in Release

• The film Jana Nayagan, which features Vijay and H. Vinoth as its director, has faced yet another delay. The Madras High Court issued a U/A certificate to the film through its single bench decision. The Madras High Court division bench today reversed that earlier ruling. The court instructed the single bench to conduct a new hearing which would result in a new decision. The court established that the Censor Board must have the opportunity to present its legal case.
• The ruling will cause additional delays for the film's release schedule. 

Background of the Case

• The single bench instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on January 9 to grant a U/A certificate for Jana Nayagan. The CBFC contested the decision and filed an appeal with the Madras High Court division bench. The division bench issued a temporary suspension of the certification process.
• The film's production company took legal action by filing a case with the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court refused to get involved in the case and told the producers to return to the Madras High Court division bench. The division bench listened to arguments on January 21 and then postponed its decision. The court ordered the single bench to conduct a new hearing which would lead to a new decision.
• The legal process currently proceeds through its various stages which will prevent the film from being released at this time.
