Serena Williams And Karlie Kloss Announce Pregnancy At Met Gala

Move over, Instagram (or Snapchat)—if you're Serena Williams or Karlie Kloss, the Met Gala was the venue to announce your pregnancy on Monday night.

Both the tennis star and the supermodel disclosed their pregnancy during interviews on the Met Gala's red carpet. Williams' statement was especially poignant given that she retired from tennis last year, claiming she needed to do so in order to deliver a second child.

"Believe me," the 23-time Grand Slam winner wrote in an August column for Vogue, "I never wanted to have to choose between tennis and a family." It's not fair, in my opinion. If I were a guy, I wouldn't be writing this because I'd be out there winning while my wife did the actual labour of growing our family."

This time, Williams was given more leeway in announcing her pregnancy, revealing the news with her husband Alexis Ohanian in an interview with Vogue livestream host La La Anthony. Williams publicly posted a picture in her Snapchat profile captioned "20" the first time, which she claimed was a mistake.

In her Vogue piece, Williams, 41, also stated that she wants to focus more on her business activities. Olympia, their daughter, is now five years old.

Kloss, 30, with black hair, revealed her pregnancy earlier in the night in a conversation with another Vogue livestream host, Emma Chamberlain, eliciting squeals of delight and a promise to babysit.

Levi, Kloss's son with spouse Josh Kushner, was born in March 2021.
