Brentford striker Ivan Toney has confessed violating Football Association betting regulations ahead of his hearing before a disciplinary panel. The 26-year-old might be subject to a protracted suspension as a result. In November, Toney was accused of 232 infractions, and in December, 30 more. He is reportedly challenging some of the offences but has admitted to several of them. Players are not allowed to share information with one another or wager on games in accordance with FA regulation E8. Between February 25, 2017, and January 23, 2021, the alleged violations allegedly occurred when Toney was a member of Scunthorpe United, Wigan Athletic, Peterborough United, and Brentford. Brentford is now ninth in the standings and has a chance to qualify for Europe thanks to the forward's 14 goals in 21 Premier League games this season. Any suspension for Toney, meanwhile, may make it more difficult for them to play in Europe next year. With the European Championship qualification matches against Ukraine and Italy coming up in March, it would also impact the forward's prospects of receiving an England call-up. Toney was a member of Gareth Southgate's squad last fall despite not being part of the 26-man group that travelled to Qatar for the World Cup. England defender Kieran Trippier was suspended for 10 weeks by the FA in December 2020 for giving out information for others to wager on his move from Tottenham to Atletico Madrid. When Joey Barton, a Burnley player at the time, admitted to putting 1,260 bets on football over a ten-year period, he was given an 18-month suspension in 2017, which was later reduced to 13 months on appeal.
