Andy Murray Receives A Wildcard For The Dubai Tournament

A wild card has been handed to former champion Andy Murray for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which get underway on February 19. In the ATP Tour event final in 2017, the Scot defeated Fernando Verdasco. It was Murray's final victory before developing hip issues later that summer. Murray, who is currently ranked 61, is seeking to move up the rankings after perhaps displaying his finest form since the Australian Open last month in his thrilling first-round victory against Matteo Berrettini.

"Coming back to Dubai carries with it a lot of nice memories, not least 2017 and the final with Fernando," the 35-year-old stated on the event website.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships present another fantastic opportunity for me to continue moving up the rankings as my form and game improve.

Murray put in a lot of effort in Melbourne, playing Thanasi Kokkinakis in his longest-ever match, which concluded at 4.05 a.m., before falling to Roberto Bautista Agut in the third round.

He later backed out of the competition that was to have started on February 13 in Rotterdam, but he might play again the following week in Qatar.
