Smartphone Brands Raise Prices Amid Rising Component Costs
People shopping for smartphones in India will now end up paying extra for a handful of well known devices by Realme and OnePlus. Both companies have said they’re rolling out fresh price revisions for selected phones, and yeah, the change is effective from today itself.
They’re basically tying these increases to larger production costs. Costs for memory parts, processors, and overall manufacturing have been climbing, so smartphone brands across the market are feeling that kind of heat.
Why smartphone prices are climbing
The smartphone sector is still dealing with higher hardware expenses. Memory chips and processors have gone up in price over the last few months. On top of that, manufacturing as well as supply chain costs, have risen too.
So naturally brands are tweaking retail pricing even after the devices were already launched. Mid range models plus some premium ones, are getting the biggest impact here.
Realme revises prices for 16 series phones
Realme has pushed up pricing throughout its 16 series line. The revised tags apply to more than one variant, especially within the company’s middle-of-the-road segment.
Realme 16 Pro 5G gets an extra ₹1,000
Realme 16 Pro 5G now costs ₹1,000 more than before. The company has used this hike across the variants that are currently available.
Realme 16 Pro+ 5G sees bigger jumps
The Realme 16 Pro+ 5G got a more noticeable revision. Depending on which variant you pick, the phone is now priced about ₹2,000 to ₹3,000 higher.
Realme 16 5G prices are also revised
Even the standard Realme 16 5G isn’t spared. Now buyers will have to add roughly ₹2,000 to ₹3,000, based on the storage and RAM setup.
Tipster Abhishek Yadav shared the updated pricing details on X, formerly called Twitter.
OnePlus 15R gets another price hike
OnePlus has also revised the pricing for the OnePlus 15R smartphone, and well, it feels like this one is not stopping. It is the second increase for the device within just the last two months.
The base variant now crosses ₹54,000
Earlier the 12GB + 256GB variant of the OnePlus 15R was priced at ₹50,499. But after the latest change, it now sits at ₹54,999.
The top model is getting close to ₹60,000
The 12GB + 512GB edition has seen another serious jump. This SKU moved from ₹54,499 to ₹59,999, so yeah it’s definitely not a small tweak.
For context, the OnePlus 15R was originally launched at ₹47,999. After a few revisions now, the effective climb is around ₹7,000 in total.
What it means for buyers
In general, post launch price revisions are showing up more often across the smartphone market. If someone keeps postponing the purchase, they could end up paying extra later, most notably in mid-range and premium segments.
Also, these changes might nudge brand competition. People may start weighing the overall value more carefully, before upgrading to a new device.
