Mamata Banerjee Criticizes Amit Shah's Statements on West Bengal

Observations on Security Charges

West Bengal Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, reacted to statements that were made by Union Home Minister, Amit Shah. She disagreed with his statement that there were growing numbers of terrorists in West Bengal, as elections approached. Mamata Banerjee questioned that statement. She asked whether it was not responsible for terrorist attacks that took place in places like Pahalgam and Delhi.

Comments on Border Fencing and Land Issues

Mamata Banerjee also disputed Amit Shah’s assertion that land could not be acquired to fence the border. Mamata asserted that land has been provided by the state government for fencing the border at important points such as Petrapole and Changrabandha. It was possible to implement railway projects in West Bengal because the land needed for this purpose was provided by the state government, said Mamata Banerjee.

Charges against BJP and Central Government

The Chief Minister has also stated that the people of West Bengal would not accept the false claims made by BJP leaders. The Chief Minister claimed that the central government was working against her administration before the elections in the state. This was happening, according to her, due to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

Concerns Over Voter List Revision

Mamata Banerjee questioned the need to urgent in implementing SIR Process launched by the central government. She questioned reports of officials being pressurized by Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and officials. Pressurization from officials resulted in extreme distress among officials. She further claimed that about 1.5 crore names were at risk of being eliminated from voter lists. The revision process was hampering the interests of tribes and weaker sections of society, according to her.
