Ursula von der Leyen’s India-Inspired Dress
Ursula von der Leyen who serves as European Commission President and chief guest at the event wore a maroon dress decorated with gold designs. The outfit reflected elements of Indian culture. This choice was different from the pantsuits she usually wears at official events.Her attire matched the ceremonial atmosphere of the Republic Day celebrations.
Background and Official Visit
Ursula von der Leyen became the first female President of the European Commission when she was appointed to this position. She began her first term in 2019 and she commenced her second term in 2024. Her current term will continue until 2029. She worked as a minister for the German government from 2005 until 2019 before taking this position.
She participated in the India–EU Summit during her visit to India. India and the European Union continue their negotiations for a free trade agreement. Officials have indicated that the agreement may be finalized during this visit.
