Toyota Launches First Electric Vehicle in India: Urban Cruiser Ebella - Cars

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has made a significant move by introducing the Urban Cruiser Ebella, its inaugural electric vehicle in India, to the market. This compact SUV not only adds to the growing list of EV vehicles, but it also puts itself in direct competition with the likes of Hyundai Creta Electric, MG ZS EV, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara.

Battery and Performance

The Urban Cruiser Ebella will be sold in two battery versions, i.e., 49 kWh and 69 kWh. The more powerful battery will allow a single charge to operate for 543 kilometers. It is rated at 172 bhp and 189 Nm torque delivery. The less powerful version is rated at 142 bhp and 189 Nm torque delivery. The price range is yet to be declared.

Design and Exterior

The vehicle is that of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara reskinned with Toyota-style unique features. LED DRLs, headlights, and bumper redesigns have occurred in the front. The side view still retains most of the original appearance. It rides on 18-inch alloy rims and has a choice of five single and four dual-tone colors for the entire vehicle.

Interior Features

The inside looks very much like the original. It has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 10.1-inch infotainment system that supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay for the passenger.

Toyota gives a warranty for 8 years for the battery and also offers a battery-as-a-service option. Additionally, the company is giving a 60 percent guaranteed buyback on this vehicle.
